Witnesses Roderick Williamson and Jessie Williamson, both of Ingersoll. On 9th Aug., 1871, at residence of Jas. McDogald, Ingersoll. by W. D. Hughson, minister. James' residence, Wawanosh, might have been East or West Wawanosh, either being a township in Huron County. Mary may or may not have been born in Dumfries Township, at the time a township in the Gore District, but since it is recorded as such on her marriage registration, and that we believe she must have had some input in the information, we show this as her place of birth. |

| Note | Mary McLeish Williamson was almost certainly baptized in a Presbyterian Church. The baptism book at First Church did not begin entries until July of 1833. Agewise, census information for Mary certainly varies, however the 1901 census shows Mary Williamson, at Lucknow, by this time a widow and on her own. Her date of birth is shown as 20 July, 1824, and so is shown as such here. As said, Mary was on her own and a widow, age 76. Her sister Agnes McLeish Oliver died there in 1903. Perhaps Agnes was visiting, or perhaps Mary was in some need of care. By 1911, Mary's neice, Almira Shepherd, was with her and Almira died there in 1914. It seems reasonable that Almira was providing her aunt with a degree of care. The informant in Almira's death was Bella Lock of Woodstock, and, again, when Mary died, by now apparently living in Woodstock, Bella was the informant. Informant Mrs. Jos. Loch, Woodstock. Mary was almost cetainlly not born in Woodstock. The informant, Mrs. Jos. Loch was Isabella Shepherd Lock (or Locke). She was Mary's niece via her sister Margaret. The Oxford County branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society has a paper transcription of Hillview Cemetery. A photo of Mary's gravestone does not appear on the website for Oxford County Cemeteries, but is recorded in the OGS transcription. The transcription reads: Mary Williamson, 1825-1917. She is buried with her neice and husband, the Lockes. Your researcher does not have the transcription to hand, but Oxford OGS kindly sent the transcription as well a death notices and an obituary. |
