See notes for Lydia Emily Steward, born 19 January, 1879, in Gainsborough. She is one and the same person as 'Lillian' as shown on her marriage registration. The 1881 census shows her as Lydia, but the 1891 census shows her as Lillie. Why this might have been, we have no sure idea. The short answer is that, quite simply, 'Lillie' may have been a nickname.

What we may say is that by the time of the 1920, 1930, and 1940 censuses in New York State, she was back to being identified as Lydia.

DeathHe died in 1937.
BurialHe was buried at Onondaga Valley Cemetery, Syracuse, New York.
NoteThe marriage registration of Curtis and 'Lillian' (Lydia) makes it clear enough that Curtis was a Methodist Clergyman. The 1930 census in Syracuse, New York, shows him to be a minister in the Methodist Episcopal Church. His gravestone (photograph thanks to Find-a-Grave) shows his middle name to be Colby.
