Parents George Steward and Lydia Schwoob. Witnesses Jessie Steward, Wellandport, and Ethel Roszel, Smithville. On October 15th, 1901, at Wellandport, by Rev. Thomas Grandy. See notes for Lydia Emily Steward, born 19 January, 1879, in Gainsborough. She is one and the same person as 'Lillian' as shown on her marriage registration. The 1881 census shows her as Lydia, but the 1891 census shows her as Lillie. Why this might have been, we have no sure idea. The short answer is that, quite simply, 'Lillie' may have been a nickname. What we may say is that by the time of the 1920, 1930, and 1940 censuses in New York State, she was back to being identified as Lydia. |

Pringle, Wellandport. Lydia was shown as Lillie in the 1891 census in Gainsborough. In the 1920, 1930, and 1940 censuses in New York State, she is shown as Lydia.
