| Note | Aikman Vrooman appears in the 1901 census at Goderich in Huron West, on E-6, page 7, with his family. He is said to be a mariner, so it appears that he was involved in Great Lakes shipping. The 1901 census at Goderich shows Aikman as age 35 with date of birth as December 10, 1865. His wife, Lillie, is shown as age 31, dob March 17, 1870. Son William A. Vrooman, age 9, dob October 5, 1891. Daughter Gertrude M. Vrooman is age 1 with dob September 27, 1899. According to Letters of Administration for Ida Campbell, at the time of her death in 1934, Aikman was living in Toronto. Greenwood Cemetery's database (Owen Sound), shows Aikman's burial as September 9, 1947, but the death notice in the Toronto Star states that the burial at Greenwood will be on the 11th. The Toronto Star death notice for Aikman, which appears in the September 9th edition, reads: Aikman Vrooman - On Monday September 8, 1947, at his home, 11 Westmoreland Avenue, Toronto, Aikman Vrooman, beloved husband of Lillie Barton, dear father of Meryl (Mrs. Wilson) and William A., in his 82nd year. etc. Interment Greenwood Cemetery, Owen Sound, Ontario, Thursday on arrival C.P.R. noon train. |
