Isaac Turner

ID # 8282, (1845-1916)
FatherWilliam Turner (1823-1901)
MotherElizabeth Barlow (1820-1890)
BirthIsaac Turner was born on 7 January 1845 at Bagnall, Staffordshire, England.
ChristeningHe was christened on 21 January 1845 at Bagnall, St. Chard, Staffordshire, England.
DeathHe died on 7 February 1916 at City of Guelph, Wellington Co., at age 71.
NoteIsaac's date of birth appears in the 1901 census as 7 Jany., 1847. It is also shown as January of 1847 in the 1911 census. The evidence, however, dates his birth to 1845, which predates his parents' marriage by a year. An answer to this is to be found in the 1851 census in England at Bagnall, Staffordshire. Family members are listed and, at the bottom of the enumeration, Isaac Barlow appears, age 5, and stated to be 'wife's son'.

We have from Familyhistory a database, England, Staffordshire, Church Records, 1538-1944, wherein there is a baptism for Isaac.

Isaac Barlowe, baptism, 21 January 1845, at Bagnall, St. Chad, Staffordshire.
Birth 7 Jan., 1845. Father's name Barlowe, mother's name Elizth.

By the time the family is in Canada as of the 1861 census, Isaac is shown as a Turner and the oldest child present in the family.

The 1901 census at Guelph shows Isaac's arrival in Canada as 1884 (a generous interpretation of the handwriting). The 1911 census shows his arrival as being in 1881. Neither will be correct, for we may trace the family in Canada from the 1861 census at least. The Historical Atlas of the County of Wellington, 1906, provides names of the children of William and Elizabeth as well as a family history. The family's biography does have its problems. These are discussed under the name of Isaac's father, William Turner.
