Physician Dr. Cameron. Informant J. S. Wardlaw (also a physician). The cause of death isn't entirely clear, but this does appear to be what was written on the form. Per Glanbrook Heritage's transcription of Hamilton Spectator death notices, the January 2nd, 1899, edition, datelined Galt, tells that Jennie had attended church the day before and then, that evening about 10 o'clock, went to the basement to attend the furnace and while shaking the furnace dropped dead from the bursting of a blood vessel in her head. The news story identifies her as Jennie McBride, age 35, the daughter of William McBride, foreman of the safe department in Goldie & McCullough's foundry. This will be William McBride Sr. Jane, or Jennie, is buried with her father, brother Robert, and sister Sophia, in Section 3 of Mountview Cemetery, Galt. The gravestone dates her birth to 1864 and her death to 1899. Jennie's place of birth is only given as Canada on her death registration. Her older brother William, however, was born in Toronto, and her younger sister Sophia was born in Toronto. The family is still in Toronto as of the 1871 census. Jennie's youngest brother is a year old. This tree shows the children as being born in Toronto. |
