The date and place of marriage for John Brook and Amarilla Merigold is taken from the 1954 Cody Family in America by Lydia S. Cody. This tells that John and Amarilla were married in Burford on March 28, 1860. John is said to be a resident of Otter Lake, which is in the present day Parry Sound District. Amarilla's brief biography tells that he was a widower with nine children. All of which is probably correct, but a record for their marriage does not appear in either the Brant or Oxford County registers. By 1860, a Burford marriage should be recorded in the Brant County marriage register. This has not been found. |

Physician Dr. Stone. Informant A. E. Brook. The Cody Family book has it that John died 12 November. It also tells that he died at Otter Lake and is buried there. The family residence probably wasn't far from Otter Lake and it may indeed have been their post office. Amarilla's death registration tells that she was buried in Foley Cemetery. If so, John may be buried there as well. |
