NoteOur sources of information for Hamilton Wesley Howell's fourth wife, Edith, are limited. A transcription of Burdick Cemetery, Malahide Township, Elgin County, as done by the Elgin County branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society, shows Hamilton buried there with his year of death as it appears on his gravestone as 1952. Buried with him is Edith his wife, 1878-1972.

Edith's surname is not recorded on the gravestone.

Again, the Elgin County branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society, provides an index to a newspaper, The Aylmer Express, 1940-1944, edition of 7 November, 1940. This index tells that on page 5, column 4, appears a marriage notice for Edith A. Evans of Malahide to Hamilton W. Howell, Aylmer (whether 'of Aylmer', or 'at Aylmer', isn't clear.) For the moment, best we may say with some confidence is that they were married in Elgin County.

Also, for the moment, we do not know for a certainty that Edith was unmarried at the time she married Hamilton, but a 1935 voters list for Malahide Township does suggest that she was. It does appear that Evans was her maiden name.

We will note here that this same Aylmer Express index tells that the Aylmer Express edition of April 27, 1944, on page 6, column 2, carries a story with regard to the 91st birthday of Hamilton W. Howell of Vienna. (Vienna is in Bayham Township of Elgin County.)
