A registration of marriage for Gideon and Eleanor has not been found. The best that may be said is that they appear in the 1851 ceneus in Onondaga Township of Brant County. With them is a daughter, Sarah E. Howell. She is shown to be age 1, but (and careful with this one) the 1851 census was not begun in Canada West until January of 1852. The age question was: What is your age as of your next birthday. Sarah's age, at least in theory, would be age 1 as of her next birthday (unless she'd been born very early in January), hence, she was probably born in 1851. |
