Home District Marriage Register

Extracted from a list of marriages solemnized by Rev. John Durrant, Congregational Minister, of Stouffville, for the year 1855

Edward Lundy, bachelor of Whitchurch, farmer, and
Deborah Widdifield of same.

Witnesses Silas Toole, farmer, of Whitchurch and Marthy Widdifield of same.

By the time of the Lundy-Widdifield marriage in 1855, the Home District was no longer in existence. The county system was now in practical effect, but the county marriage register books had yet to be provided so the old District book was used. This is useful for genealogical research. In some counties the marriages received no civil registration.

DeathHe died on 26 July 1914.
BurialHe was buried at Leal Cemetery, Barnes County, North Dakota.
NoteEdward and Deborah Lundy were in Whitchurch Township of York County as late as the 1911 census. They do not appear to have had children. They are both buried in Leal Cemetery in Barnes County, North Dakota. Deborah is with a McMillan family as of the 1920 U.S. census and she is described as an aunt.

It's evident that in their old age they picked up and went to live with kin in North Dakota. The McMillans were located in Uxbridge Township. Apparently the first postmaster was a Joseph Bascom who was from Uxbridge, Ontario. He seems to have named the town where he settled Uxbridge, but this was changed to Leal at some point and it is in Leal Cemetery that Edward and Deborah are buried.

Uxbridge remained the name of the township.
