The December 24, 1914, edition of the Toronto Daily Star, page 10, has the tragic story of James' death. This tells that James was riding on a hoist with construction material and when it came to the 5th floor, the cable slipped and the hoist fell to the ground taking James with it. His injuries were described as terrible and he only lived a few minutes.

The Toronto branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society in cooperation with Familysearch has images of the burial books of Prospect Cemetery for 1914. This tells that James was buried on 26 December in Section 16, lot 974. On November 20, 1945, his remains were moved to Section 12, lot 1201. Hence, Jennie is buried with both her husbands.
