Note | See page 42 of the Baptism book for St. Peters, the Parish Church of Leeds. This is for the year 1842 and the writing is quite faded. Evidently, a date of birth was entered for Benjamin, but this is unreadable. His name is entered as Benj. Craddock and he is described as the son of William and Phillis Milnes of Nelson Street. William is shown as a smith and farrier.
One transciption would have it that Benjamin's middle name was Chaddock, but a careful examination of the admittedly faded writing makes it clear enough that the middle name was Craddock. The baptism of his mother, Phillis, in 1810, makes it clear enough that her father was Benjamin Craddock and it is based on this, more than any other information that we are on safe ground in identifying the maternal side of Benjamin's family. |
