The clergyman's title and given name, beyond Rev. Briggs being of the Church of England, was apparently Solomon Briggs who was in Walpole between 1859 and 1865. The 1861 census for Haldimand seems to indicate that a Samuel Briggs was a Church of England clergyman in Walpole. Someone has entered a correction showing him as Solomon. The latter is probably correct.

Note. The rendering of Joseph's mother's surname looks to be Thayer. This is arguable. 'Phayer' is probably closer to being correct.
