Elizabeth Loft, 23, born England, residing Goderich Township. Parents William and Ann Loft. Witness Frederick George Loft of Goderich Township. On 18 Oct 1864. A problem with the above registration is that Elizabeth's name has a check mark through it. She shows her parents surname as Loft, but her last name as written, though not entirely readable, certainly isn't Loft. It looks rather more like Larch. It is possible, though Elizabeth is young at 23, that she is a widow. A marriage or census record for her as such has not been found, so her maiden name is shown here. Elizabeth's family name is sometimes rendered as Lofft. In terms of records looked at, whether they show Lofft or Loft is rather a draw. |
