| Note | We know of Robert Husband, brother of Henry Husband, from an entry near the beginning of Henry's diary. The transcription of his diary tells that Robert died in 1867, but the actual diary page simply dates his death to some 25 years previous. This appears in the diary's initial entries, which were begun in 1892, but we do not actually know when Henry wrote this. Unquestionably, Robert was still living as of the 1871 census as taken in Nelson Township. Eliza is a widow by the time of the 1881 census. A death registration for Robert should have been filed, but has not been found. He was probably buried in Salem Cemetery in Nelson Township; Eliza's death registration places her burial in Salem. Again, however, they do not appear in a transcription of this cemetery. A word of care, here. Robert's uncle, Robert Husband and his wife Susannah, are buried in Salem. Uncle Robert did die in 1867 and the interpolation in the diary's transcription may indicate a misunderstanding as to who was buried where. Note: A brief obituary for Robert has been found. It appears on pp. 175-176, Obituaries from Ontario's Christian Guardian, 1873-1880, (1995, 2007), Global Heritage Press, 2011. This is found in Donald McKenzie's excellent work, Vol. 7, 1873-1880. This tells that Robert Husband was born in Nassagaweya in March of 1830, and that he died of kidney disease January 30, 1875. What the obituary does not tell us is that Robert Husband was married twice. This was not at first glance at all intuitive, but a transcription of Mount Vernon Cemetery in Nelson Township is now to hand and stone 35 tells the following: Mary Ann died Dec 14 1854 aged 25 yrs 1 mo 2 das, wife of Robert Husband. Confirmation that she is indeed Robert's wife comes from the two marriage registrations of son Thomas Hamilton Husband. He identifies his mother in his first marriage as Mary and in his second as Mary A. Bennett. His death registration identifies his mother as Mary Ann Bennett. Looking over the Bennett family as they appear in the 1851 census in Nelson Township, we find both Mary Ann and sister Eliza Maria present with their parents, Thomas and Keziah Bennett. It becomes evident that Robert Husband married sisters. |
