| Note | Jane Connell's surname is ill written on her marriage registration, but it becomes apparent, looking at the 1861 census as enumerated in Minto Township, Wellington County, that Connell is correct. The marriage registration shows her parents as Hugh and Agnes and this agrees with the 1861 census. This census also shows Jane's name as Jannet, but, age-wise, this will be correct. The witness at their marriage was Robert Connell. He was Jane's older brother by a few years. As of the 1861 census, the Connell family cannot have been out long from Scotland, for the parents and all their children, but the last shown, were said to be born in Scotland. Jane's youngest brother Hugh appears in this census as age 5 and as being born in Scotland. Her still younger sister, Margaret, age 3, was born in Canada. It is evident from the 1880 census in Lincoln, Nebraska, that Jane had another sister born in Canada, post-1861 census, by the name of Emma, who at the time of this census was 18. |
