Note | The Dictionary of Canadian Biography, which may be found on the website for Library & Archives Canada, tells a remarkable story for George Halsey Perley. Along with being a lumber merchant, he became a Member of Parliament and served with the government of Sir Robert Laird Borden. Perley had been successful in busines, but was also noted for his philanthropic efforts in the face of disasters. He spent a number of years in London during the First World War and was instrumental in the organization of Canadian War efforts. With time, George became a Knight of the Grand Cross, hence Sir George Halsey Perley. Death reg. 010489-38 Ottawa, Carleton Co. Rt. Hon. Sir George H. Perley died January 4, 1938, at 21 Blackburn Ave., also his residence. Married. Of Welsh Background. Born U.S.A. on Sept. 12, 1857. Occupation statesman. Name of wife Emily Colley White.
