MS248 reel 1, Vol. 4, page 74 Gore District Marriage Register Extracted from a list of marriages solemnized by Rev. David Caw, minister of Dumfries Street Presbyterian Church at Paris, Gore District, for the year 1847. John Jamieson and Agnes Moscrip, both of Dumfries (Township). The above registration provides us with no further information. Names of witnesses are not provided; it does not state as to whether the marriage was by banns or license. And as usual with district or county marriages, the exact place of marriage is not stated. It may have been held at the church at Paris or a family member's residence. The name of the clergyman's surname seems to be of some debate. It is ill written at the bottom of the list of marriages performed. One interpretation, entered on the page in pencil, would have his name as Caird. The transcription done by Dan Walker & Fawne Stratford-Devai, Gore District 1854-1856, Global Heritage Press, 2000, shows his name as Caw. This is correct, for David Caw died in 1864 and is buried in Old Paris Cemetery. The transcription of his gravestone tells that he was minister of Dumfries Street Presbyterian Church at Paris and that he died in 1864. |
Death | He died on 21 January 1911 at Cato Twp., Montcalm Co., Michigan, at age 86. |
Burial | He was buried on 24 January 1911 at Lakeview Cemetery. |
Note | The 1916 History of Montcalm County, Michigan, John W. Dasef, Vol. 2, has a biography for William C. Jamieson, the son of John and Agnes. This tells that John was born at Kingston, Ontario. It goes on to say that the Jamiesons moved from Kingston to Galt (located at the time in the Township of Dumfries, now North Dumfries.) The 1851 census has them in North Dumfries.
