NoteWilliam attained the rank of corporal with the Canadian Army during the First World War. He suffered a broken clavicle playing football. He was at the time with the University of Toronto officers training school.

The death notice for William Wallace Field appeared in the Sept. 4, 1981, edition of the Toronto Star on page C20. This identifies him as the husband of the late Pearl Buchanan.
