Pleasant Cemetery. The burial information was omitted from Jane's death registration. Death reg. 004008-34 Toronto, York Co. Jane McKenzie McTavish Thorburn died on May 20, 1934 at her residence, 46 St. George St., Toronto. Widowed. Born Sept. 19, 1836 at Grafton, Ont. (This is between Cobourg and Colborne.) Age 97 years, 8 months, 1 day. Housewife. Residence at place of death 75 years. Parents Donald McTavish and Maria Simpson, both born Scotland. Physician Robert T. Noble. Informant Georgina H. Langmuir, 46 St. George St., daughter. Burial Mt. Pleasant Cemetery (date not given.) A note with regard to Jane's place of birth which is shown in her death registration as Grafton, Ontario. The community, which was located in the old Newcastle District, was named Newcastle as of 1814 when the first post office there was established. In 1832, the name was changed to Haldimand, also the name of the township wherein it was located (not to confused with Haldimand County). In 1858, the name was changed again to Grafton. By this time the Newcastle District was no longer extant and Grafton is located in present day Northumberland County. See Ghost and Post Offices of Ontario, Floreen Carter, 1986. |
