| Note | It seems reasonable that George Clemens Putman was baptized by the Wesleyan Methodists, but a record of his baptism has not been found. Some little study of the Wesleyan baptism records indicates that not all clergy returned baptism records to the church's central repository and this is probably the explanation here. George at some point required a registration of birth. His mother was still living and she submitted the application. We may note that George's middle name is shown as Clemens and since there is some consistency to the record it is shown as such here. Clemens may even have been intended, but, and this is a guess, 'Clement' was probably intended as this was his grandmother's maiden name.
