NoteSee microfilm C-1647, Vol. 89, bundle C 1, petition 77. In this, James Clement makes two appeals. He asks for 200 acres to be granted to his wife Catherine Clement, the daughter of Lieut. Adam 'Crysler'. Crysler served in Butler's Rangers. He also asks that an earlier Nassau District Land Board grant for his father, Lewis Clement, for 2000 acres be updated and granted. James has two brothers who would apparently be included in this latter grant, though their names are not mentioned in the petition. The year of this updated petition, which is addressed to John Graves Simcoe, is 1796.

The name of James Clement appears on the Old United Empire Loyalist list. His children, as they were entitled to do, petitioned for land grants based on his being on the list.

The following information is taken from a paper entitled Alan Holden's War of 1812-1814 Personnel List. This was submitted by a Maggie Parnall who typed the list for Mr. Holden. This is not dated, but was submitted with the intention of it being available for the War of 1812 bi-centennial, hence we must believe that the submission was not long before the year 2012. The age of the list is not stated. The list finishes with the statement that some of the notes are at the St. Catharines library. Others are in the Butler's Barracks at the Lincoln & Welland Regiment's Museum.

Mr. Holden tells that James Clement was formerly with Servos Company, that he served in the Indian Department in the Revolution, that he was formerly an officer in the First Lincoln, that he was 48 in 1812, and that he died of an infected hand on March 8, 1813.

St. Mark's Anglican Church at Niagara Town records baptisms of children of James and Catherine as late as 1811. A transcription of St. Mark's Cemetery has been searched as well as St. Mark's burial records, but a record of the burial of this couple has not been found. What has been found is a burial on June 4, 1814, for Jemima Clement, infant of James. A baptism record for the child has not been found.
