Jacob Putnam of Bertie (Township) to Rebecca Young of Niagara.
27 June, 1827, Niagara Twp., by special licence.

NoteThe 1851 census at Niagara Township shows Jacob Putman, age 56, Wesleyan Methodist, farmer, with his wife Rebecca, age 50. With them are Henry Putman, 23, Andrew, 13, and Jacob, 11. The three sons are shown as laborers.

There were almost certainly other children, but the census only shows three at home.

The 1861 census shows the same family members in the household, except that Henry seems to have taken over the responsibility for the farm.

By the time of the 1871 census, Jacob is, as before, with sons Henry and Andrew, but Rebecca is not present. Jacob is shown as a widower.

Records of death or places of burial for Jacob and Rebecca have not been found.

For the following, see C-2491, Vol. 405, bundle P 14, petition 5, L&AC images 01198-01202:

In 1822, Jacob Putman of the Township of Bertie petitioned Sir Peregrine Maitland for 200 acres. He claims qualification as the son of Henry Putman, late of the Township of Bertie. In associated documentation, William Dickson, chairman, and Ralfe Clench, Clerk of the Peace, District of Niagara, confirm Jacob's status and further state that he was not of age at the time of the War of 1812, to do his duty in defense of the colony. The Old United Empire Loyalists list does show Henry Putman as a former member of Butler's Rangers.
