James E. Winter
ID # 6408, (1859-)
| Birth | James E. Winter was born in 1859 at Metcalfe Twp., Middlesex County. |
| Marriage | He married Emma Estella O'Dell, daughter of Lorenzo O'Dell and Jerusha Gertrude Exceen, on 30 April 1889 at Strathroy, Middlesex Co., Ontario. Note: The handwriting of the recording clerk on the following marriage registration is difficult to interpret. Mrge reg. 008014-89 Strathroy, Middlesex Co. James E. Winter, 29, bachelor, farmer, Methodist. Born Napier, Ont., residing Strathroy. Parents Thomas and Martha Winter. Emma Estella O'Dell, 31, spinster, Church of England. Born Michigan, residing Strathroy. Parents Lorenzo and Gertrude. Witnesses W. Bettridge, M.D. and Luella Winter, both of Strathroy. On April 30, 1889, at Strathroy, by Rev. Geo. Brusay. (The handwriting is such that the clergyman's surname is a guess.) |
| Note | The marriage registration for James and Estella places James' birth at Napier. This is in Metcalfe Township of Middlesex County, and there was a post office there from 1851 to 1915. James probably gave Napier as his place of birth for reason of it being the closest post office. Napier in Metcalfe Township isn't at all far from Strathroy. Census information also places in Metcalfe both James and his parents certainly as of the 1871 census. At the time of their marriage in 1889, Estella had less than two years to live. A later record for James has yet to be found. |
