Sarah A. Brothers
ID # 6223, (1851-1885)
Father | George Brothers (1803-1878) |
Mother | Mary Ann Harris (1811-1871) |
Birth | Sarah A. Brothers was born in 1851 at England. |
Marriage | She married John Adams on 21 November 1871 at Adelaide Twp., Middlesex Co.. Mrge reg. Adelaide Twp., Middlesex Co. John Adams, 28, bachelor, farmer, Methodist. Born Westminster, residing Delaware. Parents Wm. Adams and Mary J. Hunt. Sarah Anne Brothers, 20, spinster, Methodist. Born England, residing Adelaide. Parents George and Mary Brothers. Witnesses John Anderson and Hannah Adams, both of Delaware. On 21 Nov 1871, at Adelaide Twp., by Rev. John Mahan. See notes for Sarah as to confusion regarding her maiden name. The year of Sarah's marriage we may safely say is in 1871. The handwriting has problems and its tempting to wonder if the marriage took place in November of 1870 considering the entry of other marriages on the same page. John and Sarah, however, are with their respective parents at the time of the 1871 census, which began on 2 April of the year. |
Death | She died on 13 December 1885 at Ekfrid Township, Middlesex Co.. |
Burial | She was buried at Longwood Cemetery, Caradoc Twp., Middlesex Co.. |
Note | Death reg. 011057-86 Ekfrid Twp., Middlesex Co. Sarah A. Adams died 13 Dec 1885. Age 50. Farmer's wife. Born England. Methodist. Physician Dr. Walker. Informant J. G. Lethbridge, assessor, Ekfrid. Return of registration 6 April, 1886. (There are twelve death registrations across the double paged image, which was standard. Most of the Ekfrid registrations on this and adjacent pages were sent in by J. G. Lethbridge. This appears to be 'one off' as compared to other locales.) Sarah's year of death, 1885, is correct per her death registration. The London and Middlesex branch has two available transcriptions of the family gravestone in Longwood Cemetery which date her death year to 1892. This also shows her maiden name as Rueben. A glance at the photograph of the stone as it appears on Find-a-Grave sorts that out. Her maiden name does not appear at all on the family's gravestone and her year of death is correctly recorded on the gravestone. Rueben appears to be the given name of another family member. |
