Note | We have no direct evidence as to ancestry, but it appears that when Barnabus Howes, or House, married Rhoda House, he was marrying, at some level, a cousin. Also, lookint at the marriage registration for Barnabus and Rhoda from 1865, it does appear that we have the same ambiguity as to the spelling of their surname with Rhoda's family as found with the family of Barnabus. Barnabus appears in the 1851 and 1861 censuses in Pilkington Township as 'Barnabus'. Thereafter, his name appears as Barnum. Death reg. 013788-35 Aldborough Twp., Elgin Co. Barnum Howse died Dec. 1, 1935, at Aldborough Township. Residence S1/2 lot 14, concession 7, Aldborough. Widower. Born Ontario on August 29, 1843. Parents Augustus Howse, born Ontario, and Annie Haye, born Scotland. Informant George Howse, West Lorne, Ontario, son. Burial Rodney Cemetery, Dec. 3, 1935. The Elgin County branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society has transcribed Rodney Cemetery. They report the obituaries for Barnabus and Rhoda from a local newspaper. As with the death notice for Barnum, these report burial in Rodney Cemetery. The transcribers go on to report that no gravestone has been found. |
