NoteNo marriage record has been found for Clarissa Moe and William F. Parsons. The first record found to date shows them at Galt in the 1851 census with an infant Clarissa Moe, believed to be Amelia Teressa (or Tressa) Moe, daughter of brother John Wesley Moe and Amelia Lawrason. In this census the age given is supposed to be as of the next birthday, presumably in 1852. Clarissa is shown as 19 and William as 23, so the couple will not have been married long. (Amelia Lawrason Moe died 1 October 1851 and it appears that Clarissa was taking care of her daughter. John Wesley Moe remarried within the year to Sophia Augusta Moe, Amelia's cousin, and Amelia's child was raised by Amelia's father and his second wife.)

William Parsons was on the scene with the family some years earlier for he was a witness to the marriage of John Wesley Moe and Amelia Lawrason on 5 November 1847.

Clarissa, who later went by Clara, appears in the 1880 U.S. census as divorced. In the following Detroit City Directories she appears as Clara and as the widow of William F. Parsons. She runs boarding houses and can't have had an easy time of it for in every second directory she is at another address. Her mother, Teressa Coleman Moe Wait, came to live with her for the last two or so years of Teressa's life. Clara Parsons is last recorded in the 1896 Detroit City Directory. What happened to William Parsons isn't known.

A further note: A family connection checked the Detroit City Directories for Clara Parsons from 1874 through 1900. He found her from 1877-1881; 1884-1887; 1889-1896. In almost every case she is shown as the widow of Wm. F. She was at a number of addresses, but no more than two years in a row at any one of them. her last address as shown in the 1896 directory is 339 Grand River Ave., Detroit. She would have been approximately 63 years of age.

In the 1861 census taken at Dundas Town, Clarissa is said to be 26. This knocks two years off her age as compared to that given at Galt in the 1851 census.

The 1861 census is, so far, the only record found of the Parsons have a child, Charles F., age 7. What became of Charles isn't known. It is possible that Charles was a child they were fostering, perhaps temporarily, and that Parsons wasn't his surname.

Clarissa married Henry Dunlap in 1896. At the time of the 1900 census in Northville, Michigan, Henry is shown as a widower. He is living with his brother-in-law, Wm. Yerkes, one of the witnesses for his marriage to Clarissa. We may take from this that we have the correct Henry Dunlap, but that by 1900 Clarissa is deceased.
