Physician and informant Gerald O'Reilly. Death registrations from this era are usually not very informative. Nancy was probably residing with one of her children when she died. We know of her maiden name, Marlatt, from the inscription on her gravestone in Troy Cemetery. There is some information as to other Marlatt family members having resided in Beverly. John A. Cornell, on page 30 of his work The Pioneers of Beverly, makes the briefest mention of a Marlatt (no given name) in the Kirkwall area selling property in 1836. Also, from approximately 1828 to 1841 Peter Shook and his wife Lydia Marlatt resided on lot 2 of the 2nd concession of Beverly. (You will not find this information on the abstract index - see notes for Peter Shook.) Lydia was born in 1795 in New Jersey. We do not know Nancy's place of birth, but her year of birth was approximately 1813. It's unlikely that Lydia and Nancy were sisters. |
