Witness L. Pierre of Dumfries.

The entire list of marriages was submitted by W. J. Griffith, Wesleyan Methodist minister, but he notes that the first four marriages were performed by Rev. Peter Kerr.

The surname of the witness is almost illegible, but 'Pierre' seems a reasonable interpretation. The difficulty is that no one with the surname Pierre is to be found in either the 1851 or 1861 censuses of the two Dumfries townships, North or South.
