Hannah Adeline Dixon
ID # 5622, (1882-)
Birth | Hannah Adeline Dixon was born on 1 January 1882 at Holland Township, Grey County. |
Marriage | She married James Augustus Milroy, son of William Milroy and Mary Ann Harvie, on 7 September 1910 at Toronto, York Co., Ontario. Mrge reg. 003784-10 Toronto, York Co. James A. Milroy, post service clerk, bachelor, age 28, Presbyterian. Usual residence Fort William. Parents William Milroy, farmer, and Mary Harvey. Adeline Dixon, age 28, spinster, Presbyterian. Usual residence Walters Falls. Parents Chas. Dixon, farmer, and Hannah Height. Witnesses: Laura Acheson and Nellie H. Nelson, Toronto. On 7 Sept. 1910 at Toronto by W.F. Wilson. James' occupation as written in the above registration clearly shows post and clerk. The middle word is almost illegible, but 'service' is the most likely. Looking at the 1911 census at Fort William, James is shown as working for the post office. |
Note | Birth reg. 009226-82 Holland Twp., Grey Co. Hannah Adeline Dixon born Jany. 1st, 1882. Parents Thomas Dixon, farmer, and Hannah Heighs. Physician Dr. McClelland. Informant Thos. Dixon, Holland. The marriage registration for Adeline and James shows Adeline's parents as Charles and Hannah. Reviewing census information, and aside from the probability that her father had two given names, Adeline is the daughter of Thomas Dixon and his wife Hannah. A marriage registration for Thomas and Hannah has not been found. Both were born in England, though appear to have come to Canada in different years. Thomas is with his widowed mother in Holland Township in 1861. By 1871, he is married to Hannah and they have the beginnings of a large family, of whom Adeline was one of the younger children. Adeline's mother's name is found spelled variously, but looking over census pages in Holland Township, particularly 1871, something like 'Heighs' is probably at least close to being correct. |
