James' occupation as written in the above registration clearly shows post and clerk. The middle word is almost illegible, but 'service' is the most likely. Looking at the 1911 census at Fort William, James is shown as working for the post office.

James Augustus Milroy born 22 January 1883. Parents William Milroy, farmer, and Mary Ann Harvie. Physician Dr. Lundy. Informant William Milroy, North Dumfries.

The Milroy family was probably still at First Church in Galt at the time of James' birth. There is a block of some years, including 1883, in First Church's baptism records where no entry was made. There are entries for 1880 up to end August. The next entry is for November 1888.

Mary Ann Harvie Milroy's sister Margaret was married to Augustus Buchanan. At a guess, this is where James' middle name originates. By the time James was born, Augustus and Margaret Buchanan were living in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They maintained close relationships with the Canadian families.

James and Adeline have yet to be found in the 1921 census. The best that may be said for the moment is that they were in Fort William when daughter Rita was born in 1912. By the time of the 1935 voters' list they were in Sault Ste. Marie and James is shown as a grocer. Rita is still with her parents and is shown as a hairdresser.

As of the 1953 voters' list, James and Adeline are still in the Sault and James is shown as retired.
