MS248 reel 10, Volume 36, page 211 Middlesex Marriage Register Extracted from a list of marriages solemnized by George Simpson, minister of the Canada Presbyterian Church, Westminster, for the year ending 31st December, A.D. 1867 Benj'n Dyer Jenkin, 37, born Cornwall, England, residing Westminster. Parents Jas. Jenkin and Miriam Dyer. Rebecca Elliot, 24, born New Brunswick, residing Westminster. Parents Gilbert and Mary Elliot. Witnesses Luke Jenkin and Isabella Elliot, both of Westminster. On Jany 24, 1867. Rebecca's marriage registration places her birth in New Brunswick. All other records found place her birth in Nova Scotia. The county marriage registrations rarely provide the exact location of the marriage. In all probability the marriage was held in Westminster Township, though this is hardly certain. The above registration provides the maiden name of the groom, but not the bride. Rebecca lived to a goodly age and died in 1927 in London, Ontario. Her daughter, Mrs. T. M. Brown (Mary Frances) was the informant and provided the family information. She shows Rebecca's parents as Gilbert Elliott and Mary Russell McKenzie, both born Scotland. |
Death | He died on 20 May 1879 at London, Middlesex Co., Ontario. |
Note | Baptism information for Benjamin Dyer Jenkins appears on GS film 226198. This and film 005748148 dates Benjamin's baptism to 2 April 1830 at St. Sampson or Goland, Cornwall. The associated image names the locale (or perhaps name of the farm, but it is illegible.) His parents are named as James and Miriam Jenkins. The curate was C. C. Walkey. The 1861 census shows Benjamin, age 29, in Wesminster Township with his mother Mrs. Marion Jenkin. Benjamin is shown as E. C. (English Church) and his mother and siblings are shown as W. M. (Wesleyan Methodists). This census makes it evident that Benjamin and Rebecca will have known each other for a few years prior to their marriage in 1867, for Rebecca's family appears on the census page immediately following that of the Jenkins' family.
