There are two witnesses, illegible on the copy. One name begins with Wm. and the other is a Moscrip, perhaps Jessie.

The Gore District Marriage register does not show the above marriage. Walker and Stratford-Devai's work, The marriage Registers of Upper Canada/Canada West, Vol. 13, Gore District, 1842-1856, indicates that pages 121 to 123 of the original book are blank. Their transcription of the book springs from marriage listings in 1849 to, basically, 1854. There are a very few registrations shown for 1851 and 1852, but these may be late submissions, and in any event do not cover Rev. Strang's returns. James Strang was marvelously thorough with his marriage returns and had been since the 1830s when it is obvious from marginal notes that he indeed returned marriages to the district registrar at Hamilton, Robert Berrie. These early returns would have been part of the first volume of the Gore marriage records and which has gone missing. As for the 1850s, returns for First Church in Galt are not to be found in the District Marriage Register after the break in the volume's pages. For later years we must refer to the county marriage registrations or to the church's own records.
