| Note | A death registration for Mary has not been found. The year of her death, 1918, is taken from the inscription on her gravestone. Mary is in Galt with her children As of the 1891 census. The enumerator has written her name as Robert Meikleham (this has been badly indexed), but shows her as a widow and a female. The names of her children make clear her identity. A death registration for Robert has not been found, but there is a gravestone in Chesterfield United Cemetery in Blandford Township inscribed: Robert Meikleham / born May 27, 1850 / died April 22, 1890 This is with an older Meikleham stone. Mary's youngest son, Robert William Meikleham was born on May 17, 1890 in New Hamburg. They were still in Galt at the time of the 1901 census and the 1911 census. Mary died in 1918, according to her gravestone in section 1, Mountview Cemetery. Interestingly, Mary died in California. Familysearch has an image of a death registration which reads as follows: California State Board of Health Town of Chico R. R. Dist. # 450, 3rd St. bet. Elm & Bricker Ave. Full name Mary Meikleham Widowed, born November 29, 1852. Age 65 years, 3 months, 19 days. Born Canada. Father's name Fairgrieve, born Scotland. Mother unknown. At place of death 6 days, in California 1 months. Informant William Miller, Chico, Cal. Date of death March 8th, 1918. The attending doctor, P. L. Hamilton, first attended Mary on Feb. 26th, 1918, and last saw her on the day of her death. Mary's usual residence is shown as Galt, Ontario, Canada. Her place of burial is shown as being at Galt 'on arrival.' There is a William Miller family in Chico at the times of the 1910 and 1920 censuses, but no obvious connection to Mary. Information as to who she might have been visiting in the days spent prior to where her abode during her last six days isn't given. |
