Gentleman, married. Parents Thos. Douglas and M. Common, both born Scotland. Informant W.J. McMurtry, Galt. No evidence has been found that there were children for James and Jane. The informant, W.J. McMurtry, was likely the husband of Jessie Carrick. At the time of the 1881 census, James and Jane are on the farm in North Dumfries. By 1901, they are living in Galt. James' mother, Mary Douglas, is with them, age 84. A couple of doors away, going by the census, and on the same page, are William and Jessie McMurtry. By the time of the 1911 census, Jane is a widow and in her own household, but, looking at the census page, could be next door to the McMurtrys. |
