Informant J.G. Wolverton, St. Marys, Son. In the above registration, Alonzo's mother seems to be shown with the maiden name Lowe, however her stone at Wolverton Cemetery appears to say Towe. Alonzo's history is of interest. He and his brothers were completing their education in Cleveland at the time of the outbreak of the Civil War. They enlisted. Alonzo served first as a teamster and then in the artillery and survived the war and was honorably discharged. The Wolverton Cemetery at the village of Wolverton in Blenheim Township is not a large cemetery, though there are certainly burials there that are of persons other than the Wolverton family. The Cemeteries of the County of Oxford, Ontario, website has a collection of photographs of the gravestones. It becomes obvious that at least some children of Alonzo and Helen were named after a previous generation. |
