| Note | Based on the inscription on his stone at Mountview, 'died December 2, 1861, aged 1 year, 6 mo, 9d', James' birthdate would be May 23, 1860. This collides, however, with the calculated birthdate of Jane Maria Scott, who died November 11, 1875, aged 14 years, 11 mo, and 28 days. William was actually born December 21, 1859. James and his sister were baptized at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Galt in 1866: William James SCOTT, s/o William & Ann (Scrimgour), 21 Dec 1859 in Galt, bap - 12 Nov 1866 Jane Maria SCOTT, d/o William & Ann (Scrimgour), 4 June 1861 in Galt, bap - 12 Nov 1866 A transcription of the stone at Mountview shows William James dying in 1861. The page that covers his baptism is definitely 1866, so he must have been rather older and the transcription in error, perhaps from the stone weathering. Whatever the story, William will not have originally been buried in Mountview for it did not exist at the time of his death. |
