Note | Family search provides us with a database (transcription only) entitled England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975, FHL microfilm 1,279,341, which shows the following: Octavius Augustus Seagram Christening date 1825 Christening place Bratton, Wiltshire, England Birth date 1816 Father's name Edward Seagram Mother's name Elizabeth The dates of death for Octavius and Amelia are taken from their gravestone in Trinity Anglican Cemetery, Galt. Octavius was 32 at the time of his death and he and Amelia are described as natives of Bratton in Wiltshire, England. At the time of the 1851 census, there is in Galt, Waterloo County, a Dr. Thomas Seagram, surgeon, in Galt, age 42. For the following, see Vital Records of Upper Canada/Canada West, Vol. 2, Pt 1., Gore District, 1818-1857, Dan Walker and Fawne Stratford-Devai, Global Heritage Press, 2005. See page 151, Register of Marriages, St. John's Anglican Church, Ancaster, 1836-1838. This tells of the marriage of Thomas Seagram to Emily Hare (Hore) of Dumfries on 2 August 1837. One of the witnesses was Octavius Augustus Seagram. It seems likely that Octavius and Thomas were brothers. This has not been researched in any detail. Trinity Anglican Cemetery was recorded, probably in the 1980s, by Norma Huber. The transcription was checked and revised in 1990. At the time, the gravestone of Octavius and Amelia survived and was readable. Recently, an excellent effort to record the Trinity Anglican gravestones was done by Ontario Headstones. |
