Catherine is a widow, her maiden name being Smart. He is said to be the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Scott of Peterboro' and she the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Merritt Smart of London. Catherine had at least one child, a son, named Ian Merritt McLean.

The St. Thomas Journal, in October of 1941, has a reference to a marriage for Ian Merritt McLean Scott, son of Dr Andrew Scott to Rene Anderson daughter of daughter of Robert William Anderson, Oct 11.

Whether Ian was actually adopted by Andrew is unknown.

Catherine's first husband was Allan McRae McLean. They were married on 18 September 1915 at St. Paul's Cathedral, in London, Ontario, by David Williams, Bishop of Huron, Church of England. Her place of birth and residence is shown as London and her parents are named as Alfred Merritt Smart and Harriet Gunn, or Gurn. The witnesses were Marjorie Peterson of Detroit and A.A. Anderson of Toronto.

Allan's information is: Allan McRae McLean, 28, born Ingersoll, residing London, bachelor, manufacturer, Presbyterian, parents Donald McLean and Matilda McRae.

Their marriage registration is nbr. 009700-15 at London, Ontario. The marriage registration is stamped with 'Divorce Granted 14/6/34 at Toronto.'
