McRae of Ashfield. On May 23, '1868'. First, Robert's initial, shown as S. will be a handwriting issue. Clearly, we are dealing with Robert Andrew Carrick, the son of Andrew Carrick and Isabella Hill. Second, in the context, the two marriages recorded, on the form, under the minister's name, are dated to May of 1868 and in the context this makes absolutely no sense. It appears to be a clerical error. The heading makes it clear that the marriage list is to the end of January of 1868. Add to that, at the bottom, the registrar dates his registration to 3rd February, 1868. We record the year of marriage as 1867. |
