GS2987 First Church Marriage Record Book

By license in Dumfries on February 5th, 1847

David McIntosh
Marry Carrick, both of Dumfries
Witnesses William Carrick and Agness McIntosh.

The above record straddles two pages and the groom's name is unreadable at the bottom.

We have, however, the following...

MS248 reel 1, Vol. 4, page 65
Gore District Marriage Register

Marriages solemnized by Rev'd James Strang

David McIntosh, to Mary Carrick, both of Dumfries. 5 Feb 1847, Rev. Strang. Witnesses William Carrick and Agness McIntosh.

The difference? The church record shows the marriages location, Dumfries (township). The district marriage record does not. That the groom's name cannot be read on GS2987 is almost certainly an imaging problem.

DeathShe died on 8 February 1880 at North Dumfries Twp., Waterloo Co..
BurialShe was buried at Section 4, Mountview Cemetery, Galt.
NoteDates of death and approximate years of birth are taken from the stone for David and Mary at Mountview Cemetery in Galt. Their stone indicates that an infant son is buried with them, but no name is given and no dates are shown.

At the time of the 1871 census in North Dumfries, Mary Carrick McIntosh is apparently living in her own home. Jane, age 22, and Angus, age 20 are with her. Angus is shown as a school teacher. See C1, page 49.
