| Note | Baptism information for Susan Buchanan and several siblings is taken from microfilm LCM-30, First United Church Records, Baptisms 1833-1852. The Buchanan siblings appear to have been baptised at First Church in Galt, at the time a Presbyterian Church, in two batches. Four were baptised on November 5th, 1834, and five on November 19th, though the date in the margin is almost obscure. This appears on microfilm LCM-30 which is to be found at the United Church of Canada Archives. (A perpetual calendar shows both of these dates as a Wednesday.) Susan's birth place will have been near the village of Branchton. She was one of Alex and Betsy's later children and would not have been born in Galt. The names of the children of Thomas and Susan are taken from the 1871 and 1881 censuses for North Dumfries Township in Waterloo County. Susan's birth date information is calculated from a transcription of her gravestone at Mountview Cemetery in Galt. A death registration for Susan has not been found, but an entry in First Church death pages for Mrs. Thomas Moffatt reads 22 September, 1873, 44 years, 11 months. Considering that her gravestone dates Susan's death to the 18th of September, the First Church entry must indicate a burial date. |
