NoteThe following information is based in part on a paper entitled Maclachlan Clan-Pioneer Family Edited by Jane Cruickshank Clark and Jeannette G. McLachlan Wilson - Compiled 1952.

Archibald, along with a friend, was the victim of a gruesome axe murder. Fortunately, he and Mary had grown children and Mary was able to continue on at Caledonia. Daughter Isabella married Dugald McColl. Dugald is mentioned in Young's history of Galt and Dumfries as being one of the first settlers in the township. No mention is made in Young's work of a family connection to the McArthurs.

According to the Dickson papers, Dugald's father, John McColl, first undertook to purchase land from Dickson, but it was Dugald that took on the obligation. What happened to John after that is unknown. Mary McArthur MacLachlan continued on with other children to Malahide Township near present day Aylmer, Ontario, where she lived the remainder of her life and is buried in Burdick Cemetery.

Given the spread of years between Mary McArthur MacLachlan and Jennet McArthur in this tree, it seems rather more likely that Mary and Margaret were sisters and that Daniel and Jennet were nephew and niece. Such information as we do have indicates that Daniel and Jennet were siblings.

The only other comment to be made here is that the group of settlers that the Buchanans came with to Dumfries Township may have been rather in the way of an extended McArthur family migration.
