Note | Familysearch provides a database in transcription form entitled Illinois Death and Stillbirths, 1916-1947. Catherine's death is shown. It reads: Catherine Jefkins, death date 01 Jul 1943, Chicago, Cook, Illinois. Age 69. Birth year estimated 1874, birth date 14 Mar 1874, Plattesville, Ontario, Father's name John Harrie. Residence Chicago, Cook, Ill. Spouse's name James. Burial 05 Jul 1943. Burial place Chicago, Cook, Ill. Cemetery Irv. Park Boul. The death registration as shown has obvious problems. Her age as given is about 10 years light. Plattsville as her place of birth, or close to Plattsville, will be correct. Her father was John Harvie. At the time of her death her residence was no doubt in Chicago and she is shown there in the 1940 census, apparently with daughter Emma. Interestingly, the 1940 census shows Catherine's place of birth as Michigan. The 1940 census also asked the question as to the person's residence as of April 1st, 1935, and Catherine is shown as living in Detroit. Catherine's age in the 1940 census, 78, is closer to her actual age. It may even be correct, for the year of her birth shown in this tree is an approximation of census information, the 1871 being the main source. Catherine was most likely buried in Irving Park Boulevard Cemetery in Chicago for a date of burial is given. James died in Wayne County, Michigan, in 1933 and is buried there. |
