Herbert Maw died May 26, 1937, at Onondaga in Brant Co. Residence Village of Caledonia in Haldimand County. Married. Birthplace Ontario. Born Sept 13, 1872. Age 65. Occupation medical doctor. Resided place of death 35 years. In province lifetime. Father - Maw, mother's name unknown. Father born England, mother born Ireland. Informant Mrs. Dr. Maw, Caledonia, wife. Burial Caledonia May 29, 1937.

The above death registration has it's problems. The place of death is shown as Onondaga in Brant County and this may be correct. The Maw residence, however, is given as Caledonia Village and this would then not agree with residence at place of death being Onondaga. At a guess, Isabella was staying with family in Onondaga and filed the registration from there. Herbert probably actually died in Caledonia.

Also, Herbert's father, Mark Maw was born in Upper Canada, not England. His mother's name wasn't given, but that she was born in Ireland seems to be correct.

The Niagara Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society has an index to Haldimand County cemetery information and Herbert and Isabella are indeed buried in Caledonia Municipal Cemetery.

By way of a followup, and according to the Georgetown Herald of Wednesday, June 2, 1937, Dr. Herbert Maw is said to have died at Caledonia. The car which he was driving skidded from the road but did not upset. He and his wife were in the car. Dr. Maw got out and was arranging with a Middleport neighbour for a tow when he collapsed. The article states that Dr. Maw was a graduate of Trinity College in Toronto and that he had one brother and one sister surviving. The brother was Joseph Maw of Madison, Wisconsin, and the sister Mrs. Nellie McDonald of Georgetown. The article also states that Herbert and his wife had a farm in Onondaga Township to which he was en route when he died. The one contradiction here is that Middleport is in Onondaga and this is likely where his death occurred.
