Note | Death reg. 025207-97 North Dumfries Twp., Waterloo Co. Melinda VanEvery Doud died May 4, 1897. Age 66. Born St. George. Residence lot 4 on concession 7. Baptist. Informant Wallace Doud. Wallace and Melinda are buried in St. George Cemetery. Melinda's date of death agrees with her death registration. Her age is shown on the stone as 66 years, 5 months and 6 days and her date of birth is calculated from this. The 7th concession of Dumfries became the dividing line between North Dumfries, in Waterloo County, and South Dumfries, in Brant County. According to an old map, lot 4 sits in the village of Branchton. In earlier years, this property belonged to Thomas Rosebrugh. Branchton is rather strung out, north to south, and while there is a village, there are perhaps what might be described as two residential areas. Much of the Branchton area as shown on the map is rural. The Abstract Indexes for North Dumfries have not been examined and it's entirely possible, even likely, that Wallace Doud did not own the whole 200 acre township lot, some of it probably being village lots. |
