The Hamilton Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society provides extracts of marriages and obituaries from the Christian Messenger (though by January 5, 1860, the name of the publication was changed to Canadian Baptist, which was printed at Toronto each Thursday.

The October 22nd, 1863, issue of this publication has a marriage notice for George S. Wait and Maria Louise Goodell and tells that they were married at the residence of the bride's father, near St. George. It tells that the couple were both of South Dumfries. While, typically, the county marriage registrations do not record the exact location of a marriage, with the information provided by the Canadian Baptist, we may say the couple was married in South Dumfries. (See notes under Maria. This will actually have been the residence of the bride's step father, Hezekiah Mainwaring.)

George Smith Wait died October 23, 1902. Age 64. Residence St. George. Retired gentleman, single. Methodist. Physician and informant E. E. Kitchen, M.D.

It would be more accurate to say that George was a widower. It's tempting to look at the page of one-liner death registrations (which is essentially what they were during this era) and wonder if there was a mis-alignment across the two half pages. Counting the lines up and down, however, the information is indeed for George. The one added piece of information that his death registration does provide is the middle name of Smith.

His gravestone in St. George Cemetery reads as follows:

Wait: George S. Wait died Oct 23, 1902 in his 65th year; Louise M. Goodell wife of G.S. Wait died Sept 16, 1876 in her 34th year also Ellen A. Bell wife of G. S. Wait died Jan 17, 1899 in her 52nd year; side; Richard Abner son of Geo S. & Louise M. Wait died Feb 16, 1876 in his 4th year.
