Marriage | He married Janet Gray in December 1866 at Cow Bay, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia.
Our information for the marriage of James McNulty and Janet Gray is taken from a Familysearch database entitled Nova Scotia Marriages, 1711-1909, FHL microfilm 1,298,875. It dates their marriage to December of 1866 at Cow Bay on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. No mention is made of parents or witnesses. Just where Cow Bay was located in Cape Breton is not readily apparent on modern day maps, but this is the information provided with the record. |
Note | The McNulty family has not been found in the 1871 census. By the time of the the 1881 census, they were in Manitoba. By 1891, they were located in Lethbridge, Alberta, where James and Janet apparently lived out their days. They may be buried in Mountain View Cemetery. The cemetery, according to Find-a-Grave, has a record for a James McNulty being buried there in 1921 (the 'record' is dated 12 September, 1921), but a stone for him has not been found. It isn't clear if this is James the father of Hugh, however this is likely the case. The 1921 census was begun on the 1st of June and James and Janet were living as of that time. He is shown as 75, born in Scotland, and she is shown as 78, born in Scotland. He is shown as coming to Canada in 1868 and she in 1866. |
