The 1861 census in Beverly shows him with his parents and some siblings and shows his age as 42. The family gravestone in Troy Cemetery tells that he died on September 18, 1909, at age 90. Place of death lot 7, concession 2, Beverly. Retired farmer. Single. Parents Peter Misener and Maria Smith, both born New Jersey. Physician and informant J. L. Gibson M.D. of Lynden. John's death registration places his birth in New Jersey. The 1861 and 1871 censuses place his birth in Canada. This is rather more likely to be correct. The 1891 Farmers' Directory places John Misener on concession 2, lot 7, Beverly, with Troy as his post office. John probably held a half lot for this is the same property as his father held in the Beverly 1851 Agricultural census and his father's holding was 100 acres. A township lot was 200 acres. |
