Note | He Death reg. 028587-00 Puslinch Twp., Wellington Co. George Bullock died August 23, 1900, age 46. Residence West Flamboro. Farmer, married. Born Canada. Cause of death shock and internal hemorhage from...(overwritten with check mark, but, going by handwriting, the overwritten word is likely 'fall'. George's religious faith is given as Episco. (Anglican). The attending physician was also the informant, J. A. Howitt, M.D., of Morriston. The Hamilton Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society provides a transcription of Christ Church Anglican Cemetery (Bullock's Corners), West Flamborough Township, Wentworth County, 1990, revised 2005. This shows George's gravestone as follows: Father/ George K. Bullock / born Mar. 18, 1866 / died Aug. 23, 1900 Five years later, an Ann Bullock was buried with George. She was single and died on January 24, 1905, at age 48. The 1901 census shows her with her parents, William and Sarah, and it's evident that the was George's sister. (Going by George and Katherine's marriage registration, and burials in Christ Church Anglican Cemetery, George's parents were apparently William Bullock, died November 9, 1913, and his wife Sarah Kievell, died April 19, 1920, aged 81 and 82 respectively.) With the name Bullock, George's family evidently goes back to early days in Bullock's Corners. The transcription of Christ Church Cemetery also notes that Jacob Cochenour was the first settler in the area (1795), and a Cochenour was a witness at the marriage of George and Katherine. The foregoing notwithstanding, all the children of George and Katherine show, on their marriage registrations, their place of birth as Strabane. There are situations where it would seem reasonable that 'near' a given town might be more accurate, or the town or village might be the postal address. It would appear in this case that for at least some years the family lived in Strabane village. The birth registrations for the children all show West Flamborough as the registrar worked for the township as opposed to a given municipality. |
